Glycosmis trifoliata, known as the Native Pink Lime Berry, is a vibrant native plant that thrives in harmony with local ecosystems.

At Talulahhub, we cultivate this species to support biodiversity, creating natural habitats while reconnecting you with the beauty of Indigenous flora. Its fragrant berries and lush foliage add both ecological value and natural charm to your garden.

  • Height: Approximately 2–4 metres.

  • Width: Approximately 1–2 metres.

  • Uses: Native gardens, informal hedging, screening, understory planting, bush food gardens and wildlife-friendly landscapes. Suitable for adding glossy foliage and colourful berries to the garden.

  • Climate: Best suited to tropical and subtropical climates. Can grow in warm, sheltered temperate locations, but is sensitive to frost and prolonged cold.

  • Hardiness: An evergreen Australian native shrub that prefers warm, sheltered conditions. Moderately drought tolerant once established, although consistent moisture supports healthy growth and fruit production.

  • Habitat: Naturally occurs in northern Australia, including Queensland, the Northern Territory and parts of Western Australia, growing in rainforest, vine thickets and other warm woodland environments.

  • Soil: Prefers fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil with good organic matter. Avoid prolonged waterlogging.

  • Position: Full sun to part shade. Part shade can be beneficial in hot climates, particularly during the afternoon.

  • Flowering: Small, fragrant white to cream flowers typically appear in spring and summer, sometimes extending beyond this period in suitable climates.

  • Fruiting: Attractive pink to orange berries develop after flowering, with fruiting often occurring from late spring through summer and potentially continuing for much of the year in favourable conditions.

  • Maintenance: Low to moderate. Water regularly while establishing and during extended dry periods. Apply organic mulch, maintain soil moisture and prune lightly after flowering if needed. Avoid heavy pruning.

  • Wildlife value: Flowers attract pollinating insects, while the berries provide food for birds. The plant also serves as a host plant for certain native swallowtail butterflies.

  • Edible fruit: The ripe berries are reported as edible and can be enjoyed fresh or used in preserves. Only consume fruit from a positively identified plant when fully ripe.

Talulah growing note: This species is best suited to warm climates and is not recommended for frost-prone gardens. In cooler areas, choose a warm, sheltered position to give the plant the best chance of establishing and producing fruit.

Growing information is a guide only. Mature size, flowering and fruiting periods vary with climate, soil conditions, water availability and growing environment.
