Kunzea ambigua, known as Tick Bush, is a generous and adaptable native shrub from the heathlands and coastal scrub of south-eastern Australia. In late spring and early summer, it covers itself in masses of tiny white to cream flowers — so densely clustered that branches seem to disappear beneath the bloom. The effect is spectacular, and the fragrance that comes with it is clean and honeyed.
Beyond its beauty, Kunzea ambigua is an important ecological plant. Its dense, twiggy growth provides ideal nesting habitat for small birds, and its flowers support a wide range of native bees and insects at a critical time of year. It thrives in well-drained, sandy or loamy soils in full sun to light shade and is drought tolerant once established — a tough, giving plant for any native garden or revegetation project.
