Losing Ground is a vibrant journey between red earth and rising blue, a song about what happens when we take more from the living world than it has time to replenish.
 
At the heart of the song swims the ancient turtle: a creature that carries deep cultural significance for some Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. In the Torres Strait, turtles can be important totems, connecting people with sea Country, identity, responsibility and generations yet to come. 
 
For Losing Ground, the turtle becomes a poetic companion through changing Country, a reminder that land and sea are not separate worlds. Country encompasses land, waterways and seas, together with relationships, law, culture, spirituality and identity.
 
The song moves through red dust, mangrove roots, ocean currents and ancient footprints, asking a simple but enormous question:
 
What happens when we stop listening?
And perhaps more importantly:
 
What could happen if we start listening again?
Rather than leaving us in despair, Losing Ground turns towards possibility. It is an invitation to change the way we create, grow and consume, to work with nature rather than against it, to take only what can be renewed, and to remember that everything we do eventually finds its way back through the living systems we depend upon.
