Awakening

Awakening is a song that emerged while I was creating within Talulah — a creative workflow that has now become my full-time path.

There is something powerful about being truly in love with what you are co-creating. When you become aligned within that flow, there is a sense of peace that allows you to move with the natural undulations of life rather than resisting them. Awakening is woven from that energy — a story of interconnection, renewal and finding peace within, especially when life becomes tricky, uncertain or difficult.

The song brings together starseeded imaginings, Indigenous storytelling, ancient wisdom and the living intelligence of nature. At its heart is the ancient Boab Tree — enduring, resilient and generous, spreading its seeds and stories across the land through wind, water and air. The Boab becomes a reminder that wisdom can travel far beyond the place where it was first born.

Alongside the Boab is the Buddha within — the quiet centre that allows us to walk the middle path. Not clinging too tightly to either side, but finding balance within the movement of life. When we return to that centre, inner peace can create a smoother flow, even when the world around us feels anything but smooth.

The lotus carries another layer of meaning. It grows from muddy waters, yet rises through them and opens into something beautiful. For me, it speaks of purity — remaining connected to what is clear and true within, even when life itself becomes murky.

It speaks of resilience, too. We are not immune to adversity, unexpected turns or the curve balls that life can sometimes gift us. But within those experiences there can also be an opportunity to discover an inner light that we may not have known was there.

The lotus also speaks to birthing and renewal. Opening with the morning sun and returning to the water at night, it mirrors the continual cycles of life — closing, resting, opening and beginning again.

And then there is enlightenment. It is an interesting word because, in some sense, we are all light already. Perhaps awakening is less about becoming something we are not and more about allowing what is already within us to unfold. We move from what is not yet fully known, birth a desire, nurture it, and allow that desire to expand into wisdom.

The two mantras woven throughout the song Om Mani Padme Humthe jewel within the lotus, and Om Namo Namah Shivaaya become part of this movement of birth, renewal and reverence for the preciousness of life itself.

There is a sense of macrocosm and microcosm here: the vastness of the stars reflected within us, the ancient wisdom of the natural world reflected within our own becoming.

For me, this is not about dogma. It is about flow, experience, connection and transcendence  the space that opens when we allow ourselves to keep growing, keep listening and keep becoming.

Awakening is the beginning of a new songwriting story for me.

A story of finding the stillness within the movement.

Of walking the middle path.

Of remembering that even through the muddy waters, we can continue to rise toward the light.
