🌿 Why we love it
Einadia hastata is one of those understated Australian natives that brings texture, habitat and resilience to the garden without demanding much in return.
 
Its spreading form makes it particularly valuable for softening the edges of pathways, filling gaps beneath taller plants and helping to suppress weeds.
And those little red berries add a lovely splash of colour when the plant is fruiting  a beautiful reminder that even the smallest groundcovers can contribute to a living habitat garden. 🌱
 
Growth habit: Low-growing, rounded perennial; can be prostrate or develop gently ascending and occasionally straggling stems.
Height: Approximately 25–50 cm, depending on conditions and growth habit.
Width: Approximately 50 cm–2 m; can spread considerably when allowed to trail. 
Hardiness: Very hardy once established; adaptable to a range of conditions and suitable for relatively dry areas.
Light: Full sun to dappled/part shade. Full sun generally encourages a more compact form. 
Soil type: Adaptable to sandy, loamy, rocky and heavier clay soils, provided the site is not persistently waterlogged. 
Full sun / part shade: Yes — suitable for both, with full sun preferred for best compact growth.
Water: Low to moderate once established; tolerates dry periods.
Flowering: Small greenish-yellow flowers, generally November–March. 
Fruit: Small fleshy berries, typically red to black, around 2–3 mm.
Uses: Native groundcover, weed suppression, habitat gardens, biodiversity plantings, erosion control, underplanting, rockeries, native cottage gardens and low-maintenance landscapes.
Wildlife value: Provides habitat and food resources and is recorded as a host plant for the Saltbush Blue Butterfly (Theclinesthes serpentata). 
Bush food: The berries are edible, while the leaves have traditionally been used as food after boiling to remove excess salt.

Our live plants are currently available for delivery within NSW only.
 
The movement of live plants between Australian states and territories is subject to biosecurity requirements. For this reason, we are currently only able to send live plants to customers within New South Wales.
 
We hope to expand our plant shipping options in the future as we work through the requirements for sending plants interstate.
