Prostanthera incisa, commonly known as Cut-leaf Mint Bush, is an aromatic Australian native shrub with deeply cut leaves and masses of purple to lilac flowers in spring. When brushed, the leaves release a pleasant minty fragrance.

 

Used historically for its medicinal properties, this compact shrub makes a beautiful and sensory addition to native gardens, herb gardens, and wildlife-friendly plantings.

Mulch: Cut and drop method, or Apply organic mulch to keep roots cool and retain moisture.

Watering: Low water requirements, water regularly until the root system establishes

 

Post Care: Lightly tip pruning is recommended right after flowering to keep the shrub compact and encourage healthy new growth.

 

Culinary use: 

Timing: Harvest in the morning after dew dries for the highest oil concentration

Selection: Choose young, green stems and fresh top growth

Method: Snipping the top 5-10 cm of growth acts as a continuous tip-pruning (use clean snips)

Limit: Never remove more than one-third of the plant at one time

Season: Harvest year-round, but flavour peaks just before flowering in late winter.

 

NB: Avoid cutting back into old, leafless wood
